Erik Hafkey
Senior Vice President, Sales and Business Development
Erik Hafkey has been with ifa united i-tech since 2010. He brings to ifa over 25 years of ophthalmic industry experience. His career in healthcare sales started with Lederle Labs, selling direct-to-physician and prescription pharmaceuticals to generalists, pediatricians, OB/GYNs, urologists, cardiologists, dermatologists, oncologists, ophthalmologists and surgeons. After being recognized for his top sales performance, he stepped up to a Hospital and Institution Manager, covering some of the biggest hospitals in the country and coordinating the selling efforts of the local representatives.
Gaining critical territory management and teamwork selling skills prepared Erik to move to specialty sales. He joined Allergan, a Fortune 100 Company and world leader in ophthalmology. While there, he demonstrated a pattern of success at various high-level sales and sales management positions. He was recognized with several Leadership Awards and Product Performance Awards for outstanding sales performance. During his leadership role as Sales Training Manager, Erik oversaw training for the largest new-hire sales expansion in company history in advance of a key glaucoma product launch. He also helped create all the launch training plans and materials and then executed the launch for the biggest glaucoma drug for the company worldwide. During his tenure in sales management, he was recognize with many leadership roles, including being selected to design, recruit and hire an entirely new external disease sales team consisting of 10 managers and 100 representatives. As Dry Eye Product Manager, Erik excelled at professional and direct-to-consumer marketing for a new and innovating dry eye medication. In just 18 months, his marketing plans, sales team direction and key opinion leader development took this product to over $200 million in sales -- one of the fastest growing and highest selling prescription eye drops in all of eye care.
With his extensive eye care experience and industry knowledge, Erik began his own successful consulting firm for ophthalmic practices and small- to mid-size ophthalmic manufacturers. His focus was marketing, recruiting, training, staff development and sales management. Since joining ifa, his primary functions have been IT sales and sales management, EHR practice implementation consulting and third-party system integration. Erik attended Indiana University Undergraduate Kelley School of Business and George Washington University Graduate School of Business. He is an avid golfer and skier. He, his wife of 30 years and their two boys call Richmond, VA home.
